Although known as Jungle Geranium, Flame Of The Woods or Jungle Flame you are probably more likely to see the Ixora coccinea being used as an ornamental hedge or screen of varying heights in tropical gardens, hotel grounds etc. rather than in the jungle. It is a species of flowering shrub in the Rubiaceae family and is native to Southern India and Sri Lanka. It has become one of the most popular flowering shrubs in many tropical countries and, although there are around 500 species, only a handful are commonly cultivated, these can be in pink, orange or yellow and can vary in height. The flowers, leaves, roots, and the stem are used to treat various ailments in the Indian traditional system of medicine and the fruits, when fully ripe, are used as a dietary source.
